The movement of your vehicle along the road relies on so many different moving parts within the clutch and gearbox, all working together in perfect harmony. Over time, these moving parts are bound to suffer from a little bit of wear and tear.

 

There are many signs that indicate that your vehicle may have developed some kind of problem with the clutch or gearbox, these can include:

 

Depressing the clutch pedal causes an odd noise

Depressing the clutch pedal causes an odd noise to stop

A whining noise when you change gear

A whining noise whilst moving in gear

A grinding noise when you depress the clutch pedal

A chattering noise while stationary in neutral

Clutch pedal biting point is substantially high once pedal is raised

Vehicle is engaged into a gear but does not move

Vehicle experiences a judder or shaking motion when pulling away

Difficulty in selecting gears

Your gears are slipping

 

These signs don’t necessarily mean you have a major problem with your clutch or gearbox, it could be something as simple as a fluid leak which if spotted early enough, is usually fairly cheap and easy to repair.
